Game of the Week
When your opponent is 900 points (!!!) higher rated
Welcome back to game of the week! As always, these are the ground rules:
Game of the Week is not a brilliancy prize. In fact, you’re more likely to have your game chosen if you share a loss. These often have more to teach us than our wins.
The player whose game is selected for Game of the Week will get a free month’s paid subscription. Just to sweeten the pot a little.
I will only consider submissions in the comments section of this post for Game of the Week. It’s just easier for me to have them all in one place.
As always, the video and Lichess Study analysis are available for everyone, but only paid subs can submit games.
On to the game! This week’s game comes from Eric Ring, who took on a player rated 900 points higher in an OTB match. Curiously, it seemed like Eric’s opponent was very scared of him, and gave up some opportunities that could have led to a huge upset.
On with the game!

I am submitting a game that I played in an online tournament for my club. I was paired with a blitz player who had a Chess.com rating of 2700 and managed to hold the defence, despite blundering a piece. Unfortunately, I did not realise that I could have captured his rook using a tactic. How can I defend myself better in such situations and gain the initiative? The game:

I wish 1800’s I come up against played like this.
