Openings Update (and COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!)
The Easy English with e3
I’m filling in on Openings Update for GM Eugene this week while he gets ready to battle at the ALTO tournament in Charlotte. I’m a little jealous of him as it promises to be a fantastic event. Not only Eugene, but GM Jacob Aagaard (who will be appearing soon on the Friday livestream) and many other GMs, IMs, and strong players will be there.
Sadly, I’m sure it will also be a somber event, as Charlotte was the home of GM Daniel Naroditsky who passed away recently. But it will also be an opportunity for Danya’s friends and supporters to remember him.
Next week we’ll have an update from Eugene on how he prepared to tackle this incredibly strong field, and how it played out in his games. Personally I’m very excited for this glimpse into GM-level preparation.
But this week, I’m using my turn on the Openings Update to introduce my next openings course, The Easy English with e3! I’ll be publishing this course on my site masterchess.com and partnering with Chessbook for the move trainer.
Like my Reti course, the idea starts by taking our opponent out of book with a first move that’s far less common, yet no less good, than the more popular e4 or d4. But philosophically it’s a much different approach: whereas the Reti repertoire was safe and positional, my approach to the English is dynamic and attacking.
I’m incredibly excited about this course and I hope you will be as well. The Openings Update is available for everyone this week, including unpaid subs. Enjoy!

Sounds like a fun one. Though I’m not in need of more openings quite yet 😅.
Cool to see you working with Chessbook. Any particular reason this one isn’t through Chessable?

I hope the Charlotte Chess Center organizes a chess tournament in Danya’s memory.
